What HubSpot is

HubSpot is a customer platform built on a CRM: one database of your contacts, companies and deals, with marketing, sales and service tools on top. Small businesses usually start on the free CRM, then add Starter tools such as email marketing, sales automation and live chat.

HubSpot plans and pricing

TierPriceSeats
Free$0Up to 2 users
Starter Customer PlatformRegular price $20 per seat / month. New-customer offer: $7 per seat / month paid yearly upfront, or $10 per seat / month with no annual commitmentPer seat
Professional Customer PlatformStarts at $1,300 / month6 seats included; extra seats from $45 / month
Enterprise Customer PlatformStarts at $4,700 / month8 seats included; extra seats from $75 / month

The Starter offer is for new customers only and is time-limited, so the $20 regular price is the safer number to budget with. Marketing Hub Professional on its own also carries a required one-time $3,000 onboarding fee. Starter has no onboarding fee.

What the free CRM includes

  • Up to 2 users, free with no time limit and no credit card
  • 1,000 contacts, plus 1,000 records across the other standard object types
  • Forms, email marketing (up to 2,000 sends a month, with HubSpot branding)
  • Deal pipeline, email tracking and Gmail or Outlook sync
  • 1 automated email action; no sales automation

HubSpot doesn’t offer a time-limited free trial of Starter; it points people to the free tools instead.

What Starter adds

  • HubSpot branding removed
  • 1,000 marketing contacts (Marketing Hub Starter)
  • Email sends up to 5 times your marketing contact tier each month
  • Email automation (up to 10 actions)
  • Up to 50 sales workflows and 15 pipelines
  • 500 HubSpot Credits a month for AI features
  • 30 dashboards with up to 50 reports each
  • 24/7 chat and email support

What Professional adds

  • Omni-channel automation with up to 300 workflows
  • Lead scoring
  • Social media tools
  • Custom reporting
  • Advanced SEO tools
  • Email send limit of 10 times your contact tier
  • 2,000 marketing contacts

Limits and catches to know

  • Contact tiers only go up. If you go over your marketing contact tier by even one contact, you move to the next tier and pay for it until renewal. Deleting contacts doesn’t lower it mid-term.
  • Only marketing contacts are billed. You choose which contacts are marketing contacts (the ones you can send marketing email and ads to); the rest don’t count toward the tier.
  • Starter to Professional is a big step, from tens of dollars a month to $1,300 a month or more.
  • Promotional prices are for new customers and for a limited time.
