How to choose a website builder

  • Decide who owns the site. Hosted builders are simpler to start with. WordPress gives you more control and makes it easier to move host later.
  • Add up the real cost. A page builder licence is only part of it. Count hosting, themes and the add-ons you’ll need for forms, SEO and backups.
  • Watch the speed. Heavy page builders can slow a site down, and slow sites lose sales and rankings. Test a finished page on your phone.
  • Make sure you can edit it yourself. If every text change needs a developer, the site will go stale.
  • Check how hard it is to leave. Some builders lock your content in. Find out what happens to your pages if you stop paying.
